BCNREB

The BC Northern Real Estate Board.

BCREA

The British Columbia Real Estate Association represents 12 member real estate boards and their approximately 18,000 REALTORS® on all provincial issues, providing an extensive communications network, standard forms, government relations, economic research and analysis, applied practice courses and continuing professional education.

Bemail

Short for "broadcast email". A REALTOR®-only service where you provide us with information on your listing, and we send it out in e-mail format to a list of subscribed REALTORs®. There is no charge for a REALTOR® to subscribe to the list.

browser

A program designed to help you surf the internet. Popular browsers include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Google Chrome.

CADREB

The Chilliwack & District Real Estate Board. Serving Chilliwack, Agassiz, Hope, Boston Bar, and Harrison.

CMS

Content management system. A CMS is a website administration system that allows you to control and add to your website's content without the aid of a programmer.

A system that allows users without any programming knowledge to edit their own website content.

CREA

The Canadian Real Estate Association is one of Canada's largest single-industry trade associations, representing more than 96,000 real estate Brokers/agents and salespeople working through more than 100 real estate Boards and Associations.

CREB

The Calgary Real Estate Board is the primary resource for buyers and sellers in the Calgary, Alberta real estate market.

DNS

The Domain Name System is the hierarchical naming system used to identify any machine connected to the Internet or a private network. It takes text-based domain names (such as www.website.com) and translates them into the computer's numerical address. See Wikipedia for more details.

domain name

The text version of a website's address, such as "www.canada.gc.ca" or "wikipedia.org". The rightmost part of the domain name after the last dot (.com, .org, .biz, etc.) is known as the top-level domain (TLD). Left of the TLD is the second-level domain (SLD), and anything left of the SLD is a subdomain.

For example, in www.canada.gc.ca, ca is the TLD, gc is the SLD, and canada and www are both subdomains.

EREB

The Edmonton Real Estate Board, founded in 1927, is a professional association of over 3,200 Brokers and Associates in the greater Edmonton area.

FVREB

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board is an association of more than 2,900 real estate professionals who live and work in the communities of North Delta, Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Abbotsford, and Mission.

Homeport

A mobile device-oriented REALTOR® application offered by Radar Hill. It grants subscribed real estate agents instant access to detailed listing information within their city. See the website for more details.

HTML

HyperText Markup Language. HTML is the most common programming language used to write websites.

ISP

An Internet Service Provider is a company that offers its customers access to the internet. Common ISPs in Canada include Shaw and Telus.

LIMO

Listing Inventory Management Online - a professional listing management and display system for busy REALTORs®. LIMO is a web application developed by Radar Hill for the purpose of displaying REALTOR® property listings on their websites in a variety of ways, while providing the REALTOR® with complete control over their listing details.

mail client

A program that retrieves your email from an online server and puts it on your computer for local viewing. Popular mail clients include Outlook and Thunderbird.

MLS

Multiple Listing Service®, a service offered by the Canadian Real Estate Association.

proof

A visual draft of a website or email template. A proof is usually non-functional with no working links, and is only meant to show what the final product will look like.

REBGV

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver is a member-based association of 9,900 REALTORS® who live and work in communities from Whistler to Maple Ridge to Tsawwassen.

SEKit

The Site Extras Kit is an early form of content management system offered by Radar Hill for website administration. It is currently being phased out in favour of our newest CMS development.

VREB

The Victoria Real Estate Board is a not-for-profit association of Greater Victoria area REALTORs®.
